L'ultimo successo in Europa risale proprio alla Champions League vinta da José Mourinho alla guida dell'Inter, era il 2010, quindi 9 anni fa più il prossimo. E' il nuovo record negativo che affligge le squadre italiane, battendo quello che andava dal 1977 al 1984. Per non parlare poi della distanza dall'ultima Europa League vinta, ossia quella del Parma nel 1999. In quell'anno anche la Lazio riuscì a trionfare in Coppa delle Coppe e in estate in Supercoppa Europea.
